A total of six teams from three schools vied for various awards and the honour to represent the state in next month’s national-level seventh F1 In Schools Technology Challenge 2011 in Kuala Lumpur.
“We will improve on the design of the model car at the national-level F1 In Schools competition,” said the school’s teacher-in-charge Joshua Buncha after its second team Blitz Syndrome II won the fastest car award for the F1 In Schools Technology Challenge 2011 at Boulevard Shopping Centre yesterday.
The winning car nicknamed R1 by team members achieved the best time of 1.095 seconds, beating the next closest rivals from SM Sains Kuching with 1.209 seconds and 1.225 seconds.
Two competing cars raced along a dual 20-metre track, using carbon dioxide gas propulsion from a canister attached to their rear, and the race finished in the blink of an eye. Blitz Syndrome II also emerged second with 207 points to qualify for one of two places to represent Sarawak at the national-level challenge.
“We will have to send the same team members to the national-level meet.
“If any team member is unable to go, we must apply for a replacement member for the organisers in KL,” he said.
The school’s second team, Blitz Syndrome II, themed ‘Storming The Track’ in orange-and-black uniforms in keeping with their orange-coloured model cars, comprised team leader-cum-resource manager Megan Aren Jecky, design engineer Elisha Jolly, graphic designer Ray Houston and manufacturing engineer Christopher Tan.
